The Irony of Life

Let the pity party commence. Ready. Go.

Before Scott and I got engaged I had been planning a trip with Gillian to go visit Lia in New York City. The Big Apple baby! It was going to be the trip of all trips. Not really. But we sure were planning a fun time! It's always a fun time with us.
Remember this?

But ... when we got engaged life got beyond busy and I couldn't even think about the trip until after the wedding. So I held off. Then all of the post-wedding health drama happened ... the blood clots being the culminating factor ... And I decided that it would be best, both financially and physically, if I stay put.

I was so so sad to cancel on the trip!

Last week Scotty came home and told me that a business trip had been scheduled for an entire week to New York. The kicker? It was for this week, which means he would be there the EXACT same time I would have been there! Not to mention this is the longest we have been apart since we started dating.

Scotty went to dinner with the Barlows last night. I almost cried when he told me he was going to dinner with them. If I could've teleported myself there, I would have in a heartbeat.

So my husband and two home-girls, people whom I love so much, are off gallivanting in the Big Apple while I am here. This is where you can feel sorry for me. I guess this is what I get for canceling my first date with Scotty to go to New York. Karma? Perhaps.

OK. Pity party over.

The First Date

This is not from our first date ... but what is a post without a picture?

Since I never really made a proper introduction, I'd thought I'd indulge you in the story of our first day.

Warning: It's nothing exciting so don't give your hopes up.

Remember our first interaction? Well it took one month for Scotty to gather enough courage to ask me out. I kid. I kid. ... kinda. And another month after that to actually go on our first date.

Scotty called me up one night last November and being the ward executive secretary I didn't really think much of it ... until he didn't bring church stuff up within the first minute.

Then I knew exactly why he had called. I mean this girl ain't stupid.

We talked for like 15 minutes and he FINALLY asked me. I said yes. He had invited me to a Utah Jazz game. I'm always up for a sporting event and Scotty seemed like a nice guy so I knew I'd at least have a semi-enjoyable time.

Fast forward to the next week. My girl Lia invited me to go to New York City for a VERY quick and cheap trip. By quick I mean we were only in the city for 48 hours. I had always wanted to go to NYC. I couldn't turn down this opportunity, especially with her as my tour guide. I ended up cancelling the date with Scotty via text. My bad. ... oh and if you wanted to know (I did) he still took a date. Just not me.

So a month goes by. No date. No contact. Scotty didn't even say Hi to me at church. Rude, I know. So I just figured he didn't really want to take me out and didn't give it much more thought. His loss.

Enter Christmas break. Scotty ... out of the blue ... starts texting me. He would text me like every other day to say hi and whatnot. I thought it was kinda random but was enjoying the attention.

When I got back from Christmas I was invited through work to attend a Jazz game in the All-Star Suite.

January 3rd to be exact. Exactly 11 months ago from today.

We could bring a guest. One of my co-workers (whom will remain anonymous) really wanted to bring this boy and I did not want to be the third-wheel for the 4,853rd time in my life ... so I was like, What the heck?

I knew Scotty liked the Jazz (little did I know how obsessed he is with the Jazz) so I knew at least he'd say yes if he wasn't busy.

So we went and had a good time. Nothing too spectacular or crazy happened. I can't even remember if the Jazz won that night. And I didn't really think anything of the date because I wasn't really interested at the time. I just thought he was nice and a fun guy. Just thought I'd chalk up another on my list of first dates. Turns out it would be my last first date.Who would've thought?!?

There you have it. Our first date story. Maybe one of these days I'll be brave enough to share our first kiss story. The premise behind it is pretty funny.

Taylor Swift ... the other girl

I should have not been surprised when Scotty told me he got me Taylor Swift tickets for my birthday. She is, after all, his other girlfriend.

To Scotty's chagrin (I'm guessing) I relentlessly refer to T Swift as his girlfriend. Why? Let me tell you a little story ... it goes back all the way to our first interaction with each other.

Scotty was our ward executive secretary (In other words, he set up meetings for church members to meet with the bishop). I had made an appointment sometime in October as I was planning on going through the temple in November.

The bishop was running late and I was the only other person waiting. If anyone knows Scotty, he can start up a conversation with anyone. He told me he was going to run a half marathon in a few weeks (Sometime you should ask him how it went). Obviously my ears perked up because of my love for running.

He told me he needed to make a playlist. So we started talking about music. Taylor Swift came up and he mentioned how good looking he thought she was. I believe the word gorgeous was used. So I asked him who he thought was prettier, Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood. He said T Swift.

Say whaaaaaa???? I WAS FLOORED!!! I mean I'm a major Taylor fan and all. But he was talking to a girl who wishes she could be Carrie Underwood. #teamcarrie

I kept teasing him about this infatuation with Miss Swift until I the bishop called me in. I think I even said something to him about it as I was leaving.

When I got home that night I turned on the TV and there was an E! True Hollywood Story on about her. I just had to laugh and immediately texted Scotty the following ... In case you were wondering, your girlfriend is on TV.

See? I shouldn't have been so surprised.

He just wanted to have an excuse to go to the concert to see his other girlfriend. I told him I was fine with it as long as he told me I was prettier than her ... oh and that I could get a new outfit. I mean I got me some major competition on my hands. Regardless I was way excited to go!

I will hand it to Miss Swift. She sure knows how to put on a concert. Seriously nothing was overlooked from the dancers, to several costume changes, to fireworks, to going out over the crowd in a balcony.

Not only do I love her music ... it was an amazing concert. Probably the best I've been to.

Did I mention how awesome our seats were?
Don't mind my ginormous hand and gum in my mouth.

Best birthday present ever!
Even if I am second in line.

let's talk embarrassing moments

All my life if someone would ask, I could not pin point a most embarrassing moment.
I guess I just don't get embarrassed. Or if I do I just laugh it off.
It could be my sense of humor. I think it's hilarious when people fall (including myself).

Yep. I just couldn't tell you what my most embarrassing moment was.
That was until three years ago. The Fourth of July to be exact.

My family was in town for the holiday and we had decided to go to Seven Peaks, a small, local water park. I know what you're thinking. No I didn't have a swimsuit malfunction. Keep reading..

Seven Peaks is no Six Flags, but we were having fun going down various slides and such. Let me first say I had already gone down the harder ones that day ... both the blue and yellow. See below.

We were about to call it a day when someone suggested we go down the blue slide one last time. I happily agreed. When it was my turn I sat down and waited for the lifeguard to give me the go-ahead. His hand went down and I was off.  Or so I thought I would be.

I made it almost to the opening of that small tunnel when I came to a stop. A complete stop!!! I can only imagine what my family and the life guard thought when I didn't come out of the tunnel. Instead they heard a distant ... "Ummm guys. I'm stuck."

After the lifeguard's efforts of trying to convince me to just go failed. I scootched my way back to the top. Since there is an initial drop where you push off from (where a ton of water comes out - you know what I'm talking about), they decided to give me big push to help me get down the slide.

Which they did ... and I stopped. Again. No joke.

At this point I have already psyched myself out and am scared to death. There was no way I was about to push myself off the edge. Do you know how far I would free fall? Everyone heard a repeat echo ... "Ummm guys. I'm stuck again."

After a lot of failed encouragement to push myself down the slide the lifeguard gave up and they pulled me out of the slide, to which (and to my horror) everyone at the top clapped for me as I was pulled out. I ended up going down the yellow slide and ran and crawled in a hole. OK not really, but talk about embarrassing. I have vowed never to attempt that slide again.

Wow.  I think I could win a prize for this one ... Anyone have a story to top mine? Please say yes!
